Russ began his career in the food industry in 2006 as an advertising supervisor overseeing the creative development of retail advertising. Since then he’s become a part of the AWG Learning & Development team, bringing his unique knowledge and perspective to a wider range of AWG retailers.
Russ has also worked in grocery retail along with many other facets of the retail world. He’s a true people person and continually strives to make a difference. He has always had a true passion for helping AWG retailers grow sales and market share through education and training. He loves all things retail big and small, but especially enjoys working with the smaller independent grocers.
Before coming to AWG Russ worked in higher education and taught as an adjunct professor at both the University of Central Oklahoma (his Alma Mater) and Rose State College, where he taught courses to a wide range of students, from new freshmen to graduating seniors.
Russ is also a decorated United States Marine who specialized in Amphibious Assault Warfare where he served as a commander of an armored assault vehicle during the Operation Desert Storm.
When he’s not teaching you can usually find Russ trying to catch fish, putting rounds downrange , drumming in a gigging band, riding motorcycles, tinkering with something mechanical, slicing and hooking golf balls or dreaming up new promotions for retail.
